May 6, 2012- Foolish Things (Judges 6-7)

God uses foolish things to shame the wise.

It is a repeated theme in Scripture, and nowhere more evident than in the conquest of the Midianites led by a man named Gideon. The Midianites had an army of 100,000 and for seven years tormented Israel. When it was time for deliverance God chose one man with enough courage to stand up to his own nation's idolatry, 300 men who would follow, and a bunch of trumpets, torches and clay jars. This Sunday we will learn more about Gideon and how God uses imperfect servants, insufficient numbers and improbable plans to bring about His desired results.

The Gideons, International is a group of people who pay their own expenses while distributing Bibles all around the world. They take their name from Judges 6-7, and emulate the maximum-impact, minimum-resource approach therein. This Sunday we will hear a little bit about the ministry of the Gideons and receive an offering that will go straight toward buying Scriptures to place in the hands of souls around the world.
